Historical opinion published in April 1976 about that month’s school-tax election.
It has recently come to The Paper's attention that a dispute has arisen between Fitzpatrick Pharmacy and the owner of the building in which the pharmacy is located.
With this issue we inaugurate a new service.
Rene' Dubos: The greatest crime committed in American cities may not be murder, rape or robbery, but rather the wholesale and constant exposure of children to noise, ugliness and garbage in the street, thereby conditioning them to accept public squalor as the normal state of affairs and diminishing their future enjoyment of life.
Two recent events, the gas station shutdown and the Veiled Prophet parade and all of its trappings, which were propogated by the few, seem to be ignored by the many.
It is properly the first business of neighborhood organizations, such as the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council, Rosedale-Skinker Improvement Assn., Washington Heights Neighbors, and the Parkview Assn., to deal constructively with problems affecting their domains, but there is a hazard in allowing this to become the only business of such groups.
I want to write about democracy.
