Let me tell you about the latest addition to the "Keep the West End Beautiful" campaign.
The People's Community School starts its second semester in January, offering an impressive list courses in art, auto mechanics, bookkeeping, typing, African history, American Black history, Black literature, charm, cooking, creative writing, journalism, modern interpretive dance, drafting, drug studies, first aid, karate, (both a must for city dwellers), millinery, sewing, and a possible course in world religions.
SDCC has joined A.R.C.H., Alliance for Regional Community Health, as a consumer group and will be represented by Mrs. Florence Harris of the 5700 block of Westminster and temporarily, by Cal Stuart.
As I was preparing dinner the other evening it occurred to me that the time is now ripe (maybe overripe) for the advent of the science fiction version of a meal - a red capsule for meat, a blue one for potatoes, a green one for vegetables and perhaps a multi-colored one for dessert, or as a vitamin supplement.
SDCC Board Members approved the plan, originated by local residents, to close Grand Drive in Forest Park between DeBaliviere and Skinker and return the land to park use.
We recommend that block units take it upon themselves to check on elderly residents regularly to make sure they are all right and are able to take proper precautions.
Board members reported increasing concern by many residents on the increasing traffic on Skinker, the increasing number of minor crashes per week on Skinker, the need for a longer walk light at Waterman, and the need for a walk light at Skinker and Millbrook.
The Skinker-De Baliviere Community Council in cooperation with neighborhood groups is initiating a burglary prevention program.
