6172 Delmar will soon undergo a major transformation.
From its lowest point after a fire in the early 90’s, shown here, the building was a safety and aesthetic trouble spot. Numerous efforts to repair it failed. Because this is the first real building east of Skinker, it has long been considered a key development that can bring the eye—and the street traffic—of the Loop east of Skinker. Joe Edwards has purchased it and plans offices for the second floor and retail space on the first floor, providing tenant parking in the rear, and closing the rear basement wells, a very dangerous condition for many years.
With the assistance of state historic tax credits, the rehab will return the building to its original beauty. Joe is seeking photos of the building in its earliest days. Anyone with photos or information can contact him at Blueberry Hill or drop off or mail to THE TIMES at our box at 6008 Kingsbury.
