December 1978

The 28th Ward, and the SkinkerDeBaliviere neighborhood in particular, will have the opportunity to make its decision on the Democratic Aldermanic candidate between two well-known neighborhood residents. It was learned on December 4, the final day for filing for the upcoming primary election, that Michael Magrath, of 5915 Pershing, will challenge incumbent Vincent C. Schoemehl, Jr.’s bid for a second term as Alderman from this Ward.

Alderman Schoemehl, who resides at 6168 Westminster, has been Alderman for three years. Often in the news for his stands on city-wide issues,

Alderman Schoemehl has also been active in the issues of this neighborhood.

Mr. Magrath is currently a representative from Washington Heights to the SkinkerDeBaliviere Community Council and served previously as President of Washington Heights and as Chairman of its Housing Committee.

The Paper expects that there will be ample public opportunity for the voters to review the qualifications of both candidates. As there will be no January issue of The Paper, we urge all voters to look for announcements of such events by flyer and at the Skinker DeBaliviere office, 6008 Kingsbury. The next issue of The Paper will be distributed on the weekend prior to the election and will contain all available and pertinent information regarding the election race between Schoemehl and Magrath.
