Editorial

Resident Objects

March 1971

Dear Editor: The February issue of The Paper contained an editorial response to a letter about the recent Jack-in-the-Box controversy. The comment criticized resistance to Jack-in-the-Box on the basis that it tended to discourage new business in the area.

The editorial comment completely ignored the fact that the particular building involved in the controversy housed one nationally acclaimed restaurant, one bookstore, one theater, one chiropractor and one typewriter and office machinery company. It also failed to mention that there are practically no commercial vacancies available capable of use by anything but the smallest of retail businesses.

The community support evidenced by the Jack-in-the-Box controversy should impress desirable new businesses with the hope that the strong loyalties of our area’s consumers will affect new businesses beneficially.

Sincerely yours, Richard C. Hart
