National Night Out in Lucier Park.

Historical September–October 2015 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

SDCC has had an active summer! There’s been an event, workshop, or meeting almost every weekend. Since the last issue of the TIMES, we had the Breakfast Garden Tour, the Dog Show, an Ice Cream Social for Seniors (very popular), a BBQ Concert with Barefoot Jones, a youth art workshop, two open houses about changes to the historic district, and four educational workshops for seniors on topics like finances and nutrition.

The Neighborhood Funding Steering Committee, which will be conducting community engagement about the possibility of a special taxing district to provide funding for the neighborhood, is still forming and will most likely meet for the first time in September. Expect more news from the committee in the near future.

The National Night Out BBQ concert was held in Lucier Park for the very first time on Tuesday, August 4 with great success.

A large crowd, estimated at more than 350 people, came out for delicious BBQ and music from neighborhood favorite Nonstop Reggae Band.

We received a lot of comments that people really enjoyed having the concert in the park, including requests to do it again.

It wouldn’t have been possible without a grant from the Regional Arts Commission, donated landscape services by Quiet Village Landscaping, and the immense assistance provided by more than 30 volunteers including Eric Trudo, Dennis Evans, Hitch Powell, Andy Cross, and many more. We’re going to follow up on the concert with another fun event in Lucier Park.

In partnership with Hamilton Elementary school we’ll be hosting a free family-friendly Movie Night on Friday, September 25. Starting at 6pm we’ll have music playing and a kids’ activity led by Hamilton teachers, so bring a picnic, blanket, lawn chairs, etc. and come have a fun night in the park.

The movie will start at 7:30pm and will be Night at the Museum.
