We invite residents of the Skinker DeBaliviere neighborhood and other City neighborhoods to submit entries for competition.
Now is the time to begin your work growing, canning, sewing, sawing, and (practice) baking!
The bounty of the summer will be on display on September 13th at our annual State Fair.
This year, the State Fair will be part of the Better Block event as we consider ideas about how to incorporate all of our city agriculture into our neighborhood’s fabric. Entries must be grown, raised, or made within the City of St. Louis.
We will also offer separate judging for “junior” entries for children under the age of 16.
The categories for entry are: Produce (Vegetables, Fruit), Livestock, Flowers, Preserves, Baked foods, Needlecrafts, Handcrafts/Industrial Arts. Judging will be based on the National Center for Home Food Preservation guidelines, available at http:// nchfp.uga.edu/publications/ nchfp/tech_bull/0Judging_ Preserved_full.pdf We plan to use the DanishSystem for judging, with the addition of a Best in Show prize. Experts will be offering lectures on food preservation (canning, drying, brewing, fermenting).
