A major court suit attempting to stifle the development of the Loop Trolley has been dismissed by the federal court.
According to trolley proponent Joe Edwards, it will soon be full steam ahead. Edwards told the TIMES that there will be a groundbreaking ceremony in midsummer and construction will be able to start soon thereafter.
The trolley will be the first clean electric transit in our region.
The Loop Trolley is a planned 2.2-mile fixed-route electric trolley linking University City and Forest Park in St. Louis, with a stop at the Missouri History Museum.
The Loop Trolley is one of only five proposed projects out of 65 nationwide to receive a $25 million Urban Circulator Grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
The FTA grant is the major funding source for the $43 million project.
There is also significant funding from a one cent transportation district sales tax, which has been in effect for some years, creating a fund to match the federal dollars and assist in maintenance and operating costs.
