Historical Summer 2014 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

I become extremely puzzled by those who do not acknowledge that our climate is changing.

The wildfires in the west, the unprecedented snow falls, increasingly severe storms, and the incredible heat of 2011 and 2012 should help us see that something is going on. Scientists say the changes are in motion and will continue; the burning of carbon fuels is a director contributor to these changes. Denial serves the interests of those in the energy business, but it fails to serve your children, grandchildren, etc.

As an individual, there is not much I can do except substitute light bulbs that are halogen or LED, try to drive a fuel efficient car, and keep environmental concerns in mind when making decisions about policies and candidates.

There is one other thing we can all do that assists the environment in a small way and also mitigates a possible raise in trash removal costs.

We can recycle. Yet, we all don’t. Does it take that much effort to divide the trash into two bags? Recently, I went to put garbage in the dumpster and saw big cardboard boxes. Those can be recycled as can aluminum and steel cans, plastic bottles and containers (#1-5 and 7), milk and juice cartons, soup and juice boxes, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, scrap paper. Two neighbors indicated to me they didn’t have the time or want to bother.

I say, get with the program. Be ecological and economical at the same time. Editors’note: in our April-May 2014 issue, we accidentally omitted this credit for Angie Meara’s photo, AbbieTakesPictures.com.

We regret the omission.
