Historical April–May 2011 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

About this Newspaper The Times of Skinker DeBaliviere was formed by residents concerned with and passionate about the neighborhood in 1970.

It was then and always has been independent of the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council.

The Times reports on the Council and covers its events but it is a separate entity.

The Times raises its own funds and does not receive Council financial support.

The Times welcomes contributors from the neighborhood.

It tries to report the news accurately and fairly.

It also has columnists who can answer for their own writings. For example, In Your Ear has appeared for over 30 years and features a frequently satiric look at local, state or national goings-on.

The column is the opinion of the writer, Tom Hoerr, whose piece in the February, 2011, issue, provoked a couple of interesting protests, as well as several readers who found it especially amusing. One email suggested a political slant that might compromise our paper’s independence as a nonprofit entity. But, upon reflection, we feel this is not applicable to Commentary, much as the pages of the Washington Post or the Post-Dispatch contain such columnists.

We welcome others who might wish to write an opinion piece and we welcome divergent opinions.

The Times has tried through the years to highlight and celebrate the diversity of our neighborhood. That goes for political diversity, too.

If you see something in the Times that you feel is inaccurate or over the top, please send us a Letter to the Editors.

The Times is meant to be a source of information, of amusement, and a way of staying connected to neighbors.

It is only as strong as its readers and those who volunteer to write for it. Your current co-editors, Lana Stein and Jo Ann Vatcha welcome feedback about whether a regular “Letters to the Editor” column would be of interest.
