This is the year that political scientists go crazy. Presidential elections.
As this is written, the races for the party nominations are still wide open.
I hope all of you participate in our primary on Super Tuesday, February 5.
A lot of issues have been covered in numerous debates.
However, there is one issue that is forgotten, perhaps forgotten for several decades now. Has any candidate mentioned the plight of our central cities? De-industrialization, migration, and declining revenues make governing a city very difficult.
The Great Society provided considerable aid but over time and various successors to LBJ the amount of that aid has dwindled.
The central city contains a disproportionate share of the region’s poor and that share is often growing. Everyone wants to help the middle class but there are many far removed from that category. Remember to cast your vote to be part of the discussion about our country’s future priorities.
