Our own Alderwoman Lyda Krewson of the 28th Ward represented Mayor Slay at the grand opening of the new MetroLink line on Saturday, August 26.
After several years of construction, including some important interventions by Krewson to make this project bearable and beneficial to the neighborhood, no one knew better both the good and bad inherent in this project.
As she said to the crowd gathered at the kick-off, “We see the value of tight-knit, diverse neighborhoods; a vast stock of historic buildings; great parks; a business-friendly government; strong cultural institutions; great restaurants and entertainment; and of course, good transportation to connect it all together.
It took a tremendous effort and even more persistence to get to this day.
This project required an incredible amount of teamwork, cooperation, collaboration and compromise, as well as tolerance and persistence.” Krewson concluded with thanks to “the residents and the neighbors along this construction route – who put aside some of their personal inconveniences – who changed the route they took to work – who endured a little dust and noise – so that the entire region could benefit for decades to come.” Now, it’s time to enjoy our very convenient Metro stops!
