Historical Fall 2001 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

Many messages of thanks have arrived at the Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council from food pantries who benefitted from this year’s collection. Grace Methodist. Grace and Peace. New Cote Brilliante and St. Roch all received large deliveries of food as a result of the campaign. Spearheaded once again by the Council’s Social Service Committee, the drive produced record yields. Many food pantries are running very low this year as individuals and companies send their charitable contributions to help victims in New York. Co-chairmen Lara Lennon Doyle and Shirley Polk worked hard to remind the neighbors of the drive and to organize volunteers on the morning of November 3 to make the collection. Students and teachers at Hamilton School continued their generous ways; an industrial size collection barrel was full to overflowing when SDCC volunteers arrived to pick it up.

On Saturday morning, veteran food drive volunteers Andy Cross, Julie Schoemehl, John Van Emden and Ruth Beckloff picked and sorted at the Four Corners Park collection station. By noon. food was collected and picked up by all but one church; by three, that pickup was completed as well. Many volunteers not named here came and went, taking a chunk of time from busy Saturday schedules as best they could.

We thank and salute them as well.

Finally, a call was received from a person who chose to remain anonymous but who indicated that she had, for the first time, received help from one of the area food pantries where she learned of the generosity of Skinker DeBaliviere residents.

She asked that all her neighbors be thanked for their assistance.
