Historical May 1990 report or notice. Original dates, prices and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

This year, for the first time, schools, community groups, and individual children and adults are invited to participate in the ongoing RiverFaces tradition in a special way. Registrations are currently being accepted for the new RiverFaces parade competition as part of the 7th annual RiverFaces parade and festival on Saturday, May 19th.

It all takes place on the St. Louis riverfront. RiverFaces believes that a parade is moving art, the street is stage, and the participants players.

Everyone in the St. Louis regional community, children and adults, schools and community groups are invited to celebrate who we are as a community by creating and presenting original, handmade masks, costumes, and large puppets with music and movement. Generous cash prizes will be awarded based on the entrant’s interpretation and portrayal of the parade theme, “Dance of Life.” The parade and competition will be part of RiverFaces ’90: Dance of Life—a festival of masks, music, and magic. Families, the young and the young at heart, neighbors and friends will gather at the St. Louis riverfront to proudly unveil their creations in a regal procession led by giant parade puppets towering over 10 feet tall!

The RiverFaces program is made possible through a grant from the Regional Arts Commission, Missouri Arts Council, and the Arts & Education Council of Greater St. Louis. Additional funding is provided by the Riverfront Development Committee, Downtown St. Louis, Laclede’s Landing, and St. Louis Centre.

To register for the competition and to receive more information, call RiverFaces at 436-0664.
