The Grow Your Own Groceries campaign, being conducted by the Residential Betterment Section of the St. Louis Community Development Agency, in cooperation with the Advertising Club of Greater St. Louis, was kicked off on March 14, 1975, with a ceremony in which Irish Minister of Education Richard Burke planted Irish potatoes in dual celebration of St. Patrick’s Day and the spring planting season.
The campaign is an effort to promote vegetable gardens in the metropolitan St. Louis area.
As part of the campaign a Vegetable Garden Seed Kit containing ten packages of seed, with a retail value of $3.50, can be purchased for $1.50, including postage. Each seed kit contains 2 packages of radishes, 2 of leaf lettuce, and 1 each of corn, bush beans, turnips, cucumbers, beets, and onions. These seed kits are available at the C.D.A. Residential Betterment Section Office, 115 North Union, St. Louis, Mo. 63108.
