Senior Girl Scout Troop 2886(英文)

By Betty Klinefelter

此内容暂无简体中文译文,以下为英文原文。

Plans for the two week camping trip to the Grand Canyon in Arizona have been finalized. The girls are now busy getting their gear together–back packs, canteens, hiking boots (especially for that hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon). Travel uniform will be jeans and blue tie-dyed T shirts and cowboy hats. It should be easy to keep a group like that together!

The Troop is planning several bicycle hikes during spring and summer. (A sure way to have rain on Sunday is to plan one. We know.) A speaker on bike safety and tours from the American Youth Hostel groups spoke to the Troop recently showing films. Now we are all for doing the AYH and becoming something of a Bike Troop. The plans for a weekend will entail transporting girls and bikes to a park site and take off from there. Dotty Erlanger heads up this program.

Later in the summer the girls will spend a day at the Koster Archeological Site. In the fall Girl Scouts have the opportunity to work for one week at the dig. None of our girls applied. In addition to missing a week of school (though some principals will allow credit for the work) the $85 cost was the deciding factor.

Anne Claseman has been the Planning Board representative for the Troop and in being representative again next year, will serve on a committee. This Board does what the name implies. Plans for Senior Scouting. Ann Dearing is the representative for Senior Weekend for the Troop. This will be September 6, 7, & 8 at Lion’s Den.

All but two of the girls going on the Arizona trip are from the Paper area: Judy and Karen Grady, Adrienne Walker, Gloria Short, Anne Claseman, Darlene Fleming, Monet Topps, Jeannie Barnard, and Sylvia Collins. The 37 girls going have been put into three patrols and Sylvia Collins is one of the patrol leaders. The girls have worked all year to earn money for the trip, serving dinners, selling Girl Scout cookies, and other projects.

Girls entering grades 9 through 12 in September are invited to get in touch with Mrs. Klinefelter, 863-8201, if interested in becoming a part of the varied activities of Scouting.
