Forty-six merit badges were awarded to various Scouts including Bert Bender (8), John Botz (1), Brian Goldsby (2), Billy Thomas (2), and Virgil Wright (2).

The Tenderfoot rank and one merit badge each were presented to Dennis O’Brien, George Stark, and Lewis Stark; while Tim Storey earned his Second Class rank and three merit badges, and

Every rank in Scouting was presented at the Court of Honor with the three highest awards going to Tim Flynn, Hugh Bender, and Andy Bender.

Tim earned his Star rank and five merit badges,

Hugh was presented his Life rank along with seven merit badges, and

Andy received the highest rank, Eagle, and eight merit badges.

Mr. George Thornburg was the Eagle presenter.

The last Eagle awarded in the West District was to Jim Flynn, also of Troop 98, in 1969.

Troop 98 Scouts were active in the Order of the Arrow, the Honorary Camping Association. Steve Santen was inducted as an Ordeal member and Hugh Bender received his Brotherhood honor.

Bert and Andy Bender were reelected West District Chapter Secretary and Chief, respectively.

At the West District Fall Encampment, Troop 98, under Acting Senior Patrol Leader Hugh Bender, and the two patrols, under Patrol Leader Tim Storey and Acting Patrol Leader Steve Santen, all received the highest award, Honor and Merit. ..Tom Polombo,
