Child Care

The “Treehouse” Is Open!

March 1971

Children playing with large cardboard structures inside the newly opened Treehouse center.

The “Treehouse” is open! Eighteen pre-school children are enrolled in the center’s full-day program. Dana McRoberts, the center’s director, and Mrs. Betty Magrath are the teachers. Volunteer parents and neighbors also donate their time. The imaginative interior of the center was designed by Washington University’s Street Revival, a group of architecture students who donate their talents in designing. Brooks Bond of Street Revival was one of the key designers of the interior. The rooms are carpeted with movable platforms, slides, a revolving door, a kitchen where the children will learn to make their own food, cardboard furniture designed by the children. The children will also help design graphics for the walls with a Washington University art class taught by neighborhood resident Bill Kohn.
