The rising number of people losing homes to foreclosure has been in the news a lot lately, as a million families will face losing their homes this year. Although counseling is one of the most effective ways to prevent foreclosures, those at risk often are too afraid or embarrassed to talk to their lender about the situation.
But there is help.
A nationwide hotline where homeowners can find professional counseling is available to homeowners in the St. Louis area.
The toll-free number, 1-888-995-HOPE, is a project of the Homeownership Preservation Foundation, a national nonprofit dedicated to preventing home foreclosures. Those whose problem cannot be resolved by the telephone counselors are referred to a local organization – Beyond Housing/Neighborhood Housing Services or Urban League – that provides face-to-face counseling for the homeowner.
All counseling is free of charge.
The City of St. Louis is also helping fund the local efforts. So if you are having trouble paying your mortgage, call the HOPE hotline today for real help and guidance. Because nothing is worse than doing nothing. Foreclosure affects more than just you.
It affects your whole family.
Call 1-888-995-HOPE.
