Joe Keaveny became president of the Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council in January 2003.
He relished the opportunity to serve the neighborhood that had always been his home.
His parents bought a home on 62xx Westminster in 1951 and Joe arrived in 1956.
He continues to reside there with his wife and family. Joe attended St. Roch’s and CBC High School.
He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1980, an MBA from Saint Louis University in 1986 and a law degree from SLU in 1997. Joe is Senior Portfolio Manager in the Trust Department at US Bank, handling private asset management.
He also practices law in his off hours. Joe is married to Karen Keaveny, who was a member of the SDCC Board in the mid 1990s.
They have four children. Shannon is 22 and will be graduating from Southwest Missouri State. Lauren, 20, is a junior at Saint Louis University. Son Joe, 17, is a senior at CBC. Fourteen year old Ellen is now a freshman at Rosati-Kain.
After Joe completed law school in 1997, he became quite active in the community.
He became a Parkview agent that year and was Parkview president in 1998 and 1999.
In 1999, he joined the SDCC Board.
In June 2002, he became the 28th Ward Democratic Committeemen. Shortly after becoming SDCC president, he was asked to become a member of the Skinker DeBalivere Housing Corporation.
As SDCC president, Joe Keaveny has tried to promote harmony among the board members and areas of the neighborhood.
He is trying to work with Washington University and feels it is critical that we maintain a dialogue with this powerful institution As he is quick to point out, Washington University helps to fund the SDCC. Joe said he is very interested in Delmar redevelopment and wants to make sure that it goes all the way to DeBaliviere.
Most of all, he loves the neighborhood. “It is diverse, integrated, the perfect place to live.
There are issues we could improve upon but that’s true anywhere. Karen and I love living here.”
