Frank Grund will be opening Kayak’s Coffee and Provisions in early September. Grund managed two Starbucks facilities in the St. Louis area and decided to move out on his own. Kayak’s will be in the brand new 276 N. Skinker building and will have a commanding view of Parkview and Washington University as well as the now nascent parkway. Grund will serve fine coffee and also homemade pastries.
He brought a sample to the Times party in June: very rich, very chocolaty brownies.
His shop will seat about 45 to 50 people and probably will be open every day. 2 6144 Delmar will be home to a “nuevo Latino” restaurant hopefully in November.
The Marsden brothers who already have Modesto, a “tapas” place on the Hill, will be in charge of this new dining addition. Eating “tapas” is rather like ordering lots of appetisers instead of an entree.
The new Latino restaurant will have as a neighbor – 3 Peggy Hau’s Chinese Noodle Cafe. 4 At the city limits, Pat Prasiliap has just completed his expansion of the popular Thai Gai Yang, and 5 Another long-awaited restaurant will open soon on Eastgate.
The proprietor is Steve Yu, long-time owner of the Silk Road on Euclid. Yu promises a new and different Asian experience. Soon Skinker DeBaliviere residents will not have to go far to drink fine coffee and eat special cuisine.
