Life-long neighborhood resident Andy Cross was honored Saturday, August 24th, in an awards ceremony at the Stupp Center in Tower Grove Park, with one of ten “Neighborhood Hero” awards presented by the Mayor’s office in conjunction with St. Louis 2004 and National Night Out. Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce and Special Assistant to Mayor Francis Slay, Ms. Dianne White-Clatto, joined Mr. Chris Howard of the Neighborhood Stabilization Team to present a special mayoral proclamation and a plaque to each of the recipients. Cross was nominated because of his tireless efforts to maintain and improve the quality of life in the Skinker DeBaliviere neighborhood.
His work in organizing and maintaining the McPherson Community Garden, one of two prize-winning community gardens in our neighborhood, as well as his continued efforts to schedule and maintain the care of Four Corners Park, have been on-going. Cross also chairs the neighborhood-wide Beautification Committee, and has been instrumental in making Operation Brightside a successful event in Skinker DeBaliviere.
His work on the playground committee, the West End Arts Council and myriad other projects, as well as his role of block captain in the 60XX block of McPherson, continue to be key to our community’s successful efforts to combat any potential for deterioration. Congratulation to Andy, his wife Linda, and lovely daughters Emily and Sarah Jane for this important honor.
