The Missouri Historical Society has begun to renovate and expand its facility—the Jefferson Memorial—located on the northern boundary of Forest Park at DeBaliviere.
The memorial was built in 1913 with proceeds from the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Its Beaux Arts structure is a legacy of the 1904 World’s Fair and is also the first national monument to Thomas Jefferson, our 3r° president.
In accordance with the Forest Park Master Plan, the Historical Society will upgrade adjacent park land.
This building project will more than triple existing exhibit space, permitting the display of up to 10 percent of the two million books, archival papers, photographs, and artifacts in the Society’s collections.
