Last fall, the Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council initiated a formal planning process to establish organizational goals for 1981.
This process included an all-day planning workshop which was held at Delmar Baptist Church in November.
During the workshop, which was coordinated by Rick Hellan, a neighborhood resident, the Community Council board discussed strengths and weaknesses of the organization and established overall goals for 1981.
Following the workshop, the officers of the board and the executive director formulated specific strategies to achieve those goals.
These goals and strategies are outlined in an eleven page organizational plan to be implemented by the Community Council.
The overall goals are:
1.
To review and revitalize the Council’s committee structure (including the executive committee) with special concern for increasing organizational accountability.
2.
To initiate communication activities between the Council and the neighborhood, including-but not limited toregular use of The Paper.
3.
To increase the level of funding for the Council by developing internal sources and seeking to increase institutional support.
4.
To act as an ombudsman and a link between existing needs and resources in the neighborhood-especially for Housing (including rental) and city services.
A timetable for the completion of all activities outlined in the plan has been adopted.
It is believed that this plan will enable the Community Council to more effectively serve the neighborhood. Copies of the organizational plan have been made available to all member institutions of the Community Council and can also be obtained at the Council office.
The plan is the end-product of a successful planning process made possible by the enthusiastic participation of the Council board and the generous assistance provided by Rick Hellan.
