Recycle Station Closed

November 1973

The recycling station behind the People’s Clinic and Skinker-DeBaliviere Community Council offices has closed down as of Wednesday, October 17. The station, which started two years ago, has been managed by the People’s Clinic for the last fifteen months.

In a statement issued Monday, October 15, the Clinic’s Administrator, Peter Muckerman, said, “Since the People’s Clinic’s first priority is the delivery of health services to residents of Skinker-DeBaliviere, we have decided that we could no longer afford to devote to recycling the great amount of energy and space that it required. The cost of maintaining the station far outweighed the meager returns from selling the glass back to the industries who produced it.

The City of Clayton has agreed to accept all your material for recycling.

To get to their station turn west from Brentwood Boulevard onto Shaw Park Drive. Bear right along the south edge of the tennis courts, until you see the large barrels.

For more information call the City of Clayton, 727-8100.
