Changing the traditional date of Rags to Riches from September to August proved so popular last year that the adjustment in timing appears to be a permanent one. Rags to Riches, the highly popular and always successful neighbor-hood wide yard sale, spon sored jointly by the Rosedale neighbors Association and the Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council, will be held Saturday, August 26, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. For a ten dollar registration fee, participating families get the benefit of paid advertising placed in all the metropolitan newspapers the Wednesday and Friday before the event, as well as in the Saturday edition of the Post Dispatch. Promotional flyers are distributed throughout the community to increase the number of customers who come by, and registered vendors are listed on a map that is provided free to customers when they check in at our registration site on Skinker Boulevard. Students returning to Washington University have the opportunity to find the final items they need to finish of their residence at bargain prices.
If you don’t want to have your sale at your address, or if you live in an apartment and your landlord may not encourage you to have a yard sale, you can pay $10.00 and reserve space on the parking lot at Skinker, where the registration table is located, or, this year, at new spaces assigned at Four Corners Park. Grilled brats and liquid refreshment are also available for purchase starting around 11:00 a.m. Early risers can purchase coffee and donuts.
The Celebrity Bake Sale returned last year to cheers and whistles.
It was a close vote, but Officer Don Reynolds was selected as the most noteworthy celebrity baker for his chocolate chip cookies.
This year, the sky is the limit. So celebrities, dust off your baking utensils and get ready to participate.
