Ah, Valentine’s Day . ..
We don’t have any cozy nooks or soft lights, but we do have a variety of love stories for all tastes.
A Matter of Feeling, a best-seller in France, tells many stories of both parental and romantic love about the members of a close and delightful family. Roberta Silman’s Boundaries is a moving account of loss.
A Jewish widow, to her family’s regret, meets a fascinating and loving German man before she has gotten over her husband’s death. Hand-Me-Downs by Rhea Kohan, is about the unusual relationships among three generations of women.
It is filled with zesty dialogue and vivid characters.
Speaking of love, we love our books. Did you know that the first eight months of 1980, 33 record albums and 188 books and magazines were not returned to Des Peres?
These figures only cover adult materials.
Even more children’s books did not come back.
Many of these are of lasting value and have to be replaced, so some of the money that would ordinarily be spent to bring you the new books you ask for must be spent for old ones.
Look in your closets and under your beds and bring everything back so we can use our book allowance to your advantage. Don’t forget our film series celebrating Black History month, featuring such films as the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman and Brian’s Song.
They will be shown every Thursday at 4. Children will enjoy a Valentine’s Day crafts program on Tuesday, February 10 at 4. Game Day, every Friday, will be much more fun because of the new toys and games for all ages we just bought.
One of them is Battleship.
We are starting to check out puzzles for home use. Ask at the desk.
Finally, pre-school story hour starts this month.
It will meet Wednesday at 10 a.m.
