Did you know that by City Ordinance property owners are responsible for maintaining their property from the center of the street in front to the center of the alley in back?
Use the following tips to help keep our alleys and neighborhood clean:
- Place only bagged trash in the dumpsters and close dumpster lids. Please pick up stray trash and debris that falls out of the dumpster.
- Do not overfill dumpsters. Over-flowing dumpsters and dumpsters that are too heavy often cannot be emptied.
- Place bulk items behind your property at the alley line the weekend before the first Monday of the month. Items must be in place by 6:00 a.m. on the first Monday for collection. The City Refuse Division has all week to pick them up.
- Put bulk items at least 3 feet away from any dumpster. Please do not lean any items on the dumpster or place items between dumpsters. (They will end up under the dumpster when the dumpster truck comes through!)
- Report Missed Pickups to the Citizens’ Service Bureau by dialing 311 if your bulk items are still in the alley after a week.
- Use the Green Waste dumpster for small twigs and branches. Branches larger than 2 inches in diameter should be cut into lengths no longer than 3 feet and bundled for bulk pick-up.
- Doing a construction project at your home? Take debris to one of the two City Transfer Stations. Residents may take 12 loads of trash and debris every year without charge. Please do not put construction or contractor trash in residential dumpsters. For transfer station locations and to learn more: stlouis-mo.gov and search Residential Dumping.
- Household recycling (paper, flattened cardboard, plastic bottles and containers, glass bottles and jars, metal food and beverage cans and food and beverage cartons) can be placed in the blue dumpsters on the 500 block of Des Peres just north of Westminster.
