Winter has had its grip on us for quite some time. Luckily for us we have some great winter activities so close by.
I have been enjoying the great exhibitions at the art museum and history museum.
We have had amazing world-class exhibits like Anselm Keifer at SLAM as well as the Mill Creek, the ‘Black Metropolis’ at the Missouri History museum.
On the north side of the neighborhood we just got done celebrating the Loop Ice Carnival on the Delmar Loop.
There is bowling, indoor golf, and some amazing American and ethnic restaurants. How lucky are we? (I am reminding myself of this as well as all of the neighbors because I am famously not a fan of winter) But, as many of my contemporaries I am dealing with a lot of loss: of family, of friends, of neighbors.
I also am suffering of the stress of the conflict in our country.
I do not recall a time in my life where the country has been more divided. Sometimes I do not recognize the country we are living in.
On the horizon, however, is the hope of spring, again seeing the crocuses and the tulips, the buds on the trees, and the early lettuces at the community garden.
I have friends of all political persuasions, but these are friends that walk the walk and talk the talk of charity, community, and service.
They recognize the value in all people, and the benefits of diversity. Like the spring, I have hope and faith in the people of our community. Like most of our neighbors, this sense of community is why they chose to live in Skinker DeBaliviere.
The more I get out of my house, and dialogue with our neighbors, the more optimistic I am about coming out of this bleak winter and moving to a brighter future
