Fall is such a bittersweet time for me.
I cannot express how I much I do not love winter. And as much as I do not like the cold, the gray, the trees without leaves, I do look forward to the Holidays.
This is another time of year when our neighborhood shines. Christmas carolers, holiday lights, snowmen, and the original St. Louis Wintermarkt festival. Wintermarkt is an outdoor festival inspired by the original German festivals with handmade crafts for sale, warm drinks, warm food, and a cappella singers to entertain you (there is even a specific area for young craftspersons). For anyone who hasn’t made it yet to Wintermarkt, this was an idea that I thought was crazy when it was first proposed.
A festival outdoors in winter in St. Louis?? No one will come, I thought.
This is not Germany, I thought.
But as often happens, I was wrong.
I do have to admit that the attendance is better when the weather is better, but even in our ‘not ideal’ St. Louis winters talented craftspeople, musical groups, and hearty volunteers come out to share in some cheer.
This is the only place where I have hot spiced wine and roasted chestnuts on the regular.
It is a great ‘shop local’ opportunity for your holiday gift giving.
We were unable to have the Wintermarkt in 2020 due to Covid, so come out and brave the weather to support artists and enjoy some good food and hear some great music!
