Family Fun adventures close to home: – Great Forest Park Balloon Race and Glow – This annual hot-air balloon event is September 16 – 17th!

The Glow is Friday evening with fireworks at 9:15pm followed by the Race on Saturday taking off from Central Field around 4:30 (depending on the wind and Hare). – Escape the Room – So much fun for 8 – 12 people. You are locked in a room for an hour with your “team” to locate clues and solve problems so you can unlock the door as winners . . . if you are lucky. So much fun for everyone! Located at 1201 Washington Ave – Craft Alliance Center – Did you know there are classes offered for kids at Craft Alliance? You get to play and create with clay, try your hand with photography or learn about 3D modeling and more.

All this you can walk to! www.craftalliance.org – TOYS of the 50s, 60s and 70s – showcased at the Missouri History Museum, come see Gumby. Barbie. Slinky. Mr. Potato Head. Wham-O. Spirograph. Hot Wheels.

The names of popular toys from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s capture the craziness, the joy, the sheer fun of being a kid.

But beneath those nutty names are rich veins of nostalgia, memory and history.

The stories of the kids who played with these toys, the adults who bought them, the child-rearing experts who judged them and the people who invented them, reflect the rhythms of American life. Experience the toys and their stories through three imagined living rooms that bring the decades back to life. Opening Saturday, October 29th. Halloween is coming . . . . and since the next Times does not come out until November here are some little tidbits for you.
