Summer 2013

Historical Summer 2013 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

A new website, called the “Nextdoor”, is in full operation and is adding members daily,” Katie Wilson, the neighborhood lead on the site commented. “I’m thrilled it gained momentum so quickly. It’s certainly a sign of the times that I was able to meet more neighbors through the website than through attending functions, going for walks and working outside on the house. Anyway I meet them, I’m happy to get to know more people in our neighborhood. Getting acquainted with other families provides support to the parents and potential playmates for our kids.” It seems having a strong network around can help deter unwanted activity and help everyone look out for each other. Within days of setting up the site, neighbors joined and already reached out to help someone in the neighborhood try to find a place for her son and his family to live. We’ve set up a recommendation page with contractors, lawn care specialists and the like.

There are groups formed for getting kids together to play, a ladies bunko group, and a healthy dinner swap.

The possibilities are endless — if it’s something you’ve wanted to try, it’s likely someone will share your interest.

The site is easy to use and allows you to communicate with everyone involved very conveniently. You control your email settings so you can be alerted of only things that interest you. Similar to the “like” on Facebook, you are allowed to “thank” someone for a post that you appreciate. You can also send private messages to someone if you like, make recommendations, and form or join groups.

There are also classifieds, events, lost and found, and crime and safety headings you can post under. Katie says, “Thank you to everyone that has gotten involved either by joining, spreading the word or posting on the site.

It has really surpassed my expectations and I can’t wait to meet more neighbors!

To join, you can go to the following webpage: https://nextdoor.com/ invite/n0b63kpxu1ysre45molv which will link you directly to our neighborhood. You can also feel free to email me, Katie, directly and I can reply with the link so all you have to do is click.

I can be reached at katie.kaw.wilson@ gmail.com.”
