The Gateway Festival Orchestra is holding a series of exceptional and free concerts at the open-air shell of the lovely, grassy Brookings Quadrangle on the WU campus Sundays in July.
Each concert includes a major symphonic work and two or three smaller works. Concerts are held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, July 14, and July 28.
A special note for the concert on July 28: neighborhood resident and member of the orchestra for its entire 50 years, Jan Scott, will be a featured soloist! Bring a lawn chair or blanket for relaxing. Parking is free and plentiful, and Ted Drewes Frozen Custard is available for purchase. Children receive an attendance prize. “Notes to Munch On”, a preconcert discussion, always begins at 7:10 p.m.
The orchestra’s 50th Anniversary will kickoff at the Regional Arts Commission on Saturday June 29th from 1:00-4:00. Music Memories and Munchies are Free, and a Kiddie concert begins at 2:30 at the beautiful RAC building at 6120 Delmar. For more information, go to: www.gatewayfestivalorchestra.org.
