Discover La Bella Vida In Colombia

Summer 2013

Historical Summer 2013 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

But if you can’t make the trip, here’s the next best thing: curl up with a copy of Morada al sur (A Home in the South), the first English translation of the work of Aurelio Arturo, regarded by many as Colombia’s finest poet. Exiled in the north of the country and witness to its violent political and social upheavals, Arturo writes with love and longing for the southern landscapes of Colombia.

His language embraces his beloved home as if to recreate it. And in this elegant and sensuous collection, translator Rose Shapiro brings to life the beauty of Arturo’s poetic imagery. Rose Shapiro (1965-2009), an associate professor at Fontbonne University, was a resident of the SD neighborhood before losing her battle to ovarian cancer in October 2009.

The SD Times noted her passing in the November-December 2009 issue. PenUltimate Press, Inc has just published her book which she was working on at the time of her death. PenUltimate is a small literary press located at 520 N. Skinker in the SD neighborhood.

The book is available from Penultimate Press, at Washington University or on Amazon.
