St. Louis is a wonderful place to be in the summertime – assuming you can deal with the heat. Looking ahead to the summer, I am thinking of activities I can do with my daughter, who is 4.
I don’t really want to sign up her for back-to-back summer camps and there is a limit to the number of times you can visit the pool. So I started to think: I wish there were some low-key summertime activities going on in my backyard — and I bet many of my neighbors in Skinker-DeBaliviere are thinking the same. I’d like to get together with other parents to sketch out some ideas of free activities we could organize.
I am not envisioning anything as formal as a summer camp, but more a series of linked activities.
They could take place during in single week in the summer or they could be spread out over, let’s say, Fridays in July.
Some potential activities that spring to mind: 1. Producing a piece of public art for the neighborhood. 2. Biking up to the Forest Park together and going to the zoo 3. Organizing a neighborhood scavenger hunt.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please get in touch.
The targeted age group and the logistics of any activity would depend on the parents who are willing to lend a hand in organizing this.
If you are interested, please e-mail or call me at timwoodcock@speedpost.net or (314) 494- 1893.
I will collect people’s details and coordinate a planning meeting in late April.
