The excitement of fall, football and festivities come together at outdoor “tailgate” parties that take place prior to every home football game on the Washington University campus.

These events are open to the public and attract students, fans of the opposing team, and community members, as well.

On September 17, the Danforth University Center (DUC) and the Department of Athletics are joining forces to invite Washington University neighbors to experience WUSTL hospitality and Bears Football. Join student groups and other members of the university community as they gather on the DUC Southwest Patio facing the Simon Hall parking lot and Francis Field.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the “tailgate” event will be specially focused on WUSTL neighbors.

The family-oriented atmosphere will include kid-friendly diversions such as live music, face painting, inflatables and yard games.

A big screen television will be available for parents to sneak a peek at nationally televised games and keep up with scores around the country.

Then at 1 p.m. the Washington University Bears will take on Wittenberg University of Springfield, Ohio, ranked #8 in a preseason poll of NCAA Division III teams by The Sporting News. Washington University neighbors who attend the tailgate and receive a wristband will be eligible for free admission to the football game. Washington University neighbors are always welcome at university athletic events. Admission to most events is free of charge; football games cost $5 for adults and $1 for children.
