Thanks to the expertise of Marj Weir (and the encouragement of Dan McGuire), there is now a general search capacity built into the SDTimes website!
It isn’t perfect because the Optical Character Recognition done on the scanned issues isn’t perfect.
The issues since 2002 when they were created in PDF format are much more accurate. Test it out: just search for a last name, and once you’ve selected an issue from the list returned by the search, you’ll have to “Find” the word again in that issue.
It cannot tell which page it’s on. Use the buttons next to the Find box to Find Next and Find Previous instances of the word.
It can be fun to look for a former neighbor or friend from the past forty years of living in the Skinker-DeBaliviere Neighborhood.
Now it is also possible to email directly to the website: jvatcha@ sdtimes.org. Plans are afoot to have a larger photo capacity on the website in order to share more photos, including color photos, that are sent us about neighborhood residents and events. Look for more news about that in the fall, and send us your best SD photos!
