TWO GREAT EVENTS, One Date – May 14, 2011 – Free Electronics & Appliance Recycling The Skinker DeBaliviere Community Council is partnering with WITS to sponsor a neighborhood Electronics Recycling Fair on Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10am-4pm, at the Four Corners, Greg Freeman Park. WITS, a non-profit organization, provides training and employment for at-risk individuals in the Saint Louis area. Over 12,000 low-income people have volunteered to earn a computer, TV or other working electronics. More than 75% of the electronics they receive are repurposed and put back to use – the remaining 25% are de-manufactured and the components recycled using zero landfill practices.

While conducting your spring cleaning, be on the look out for recyclable items like old computers, etc… Unacceptable items for recycling include: tires, wood furniture, other wood products, paint and paint cans and household and industrial chemicals. Suggested drop-off donations ($5 each) for: computer monitors, laptops and televisions, ($5 required fee for large appliances and Freon-containing devices). Everything else may be dropped-off free of charge.

All donations of reusable items are tax-deductible. Volunteers needed on event day to help receive electronics. For more information please visit WITS website (http:// www.witsinc.org/) or call the SDCC Office at 314-862-5122. SKINKER-DEBALIVIERE PLANTING DAY- MAY 14, 2011.

The 15th Annual Skinker-DeBaliviere Planting Day will also be held Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10am-12pm, at the Four Corners, Greg Freeman Park.

We worked so hard to clean up our neighborhood on BLITZ day and now it is time to make it “oooooooh” and “ahhhhhhh!” Operation Brightside flowers will be available for planting in our parks and other public places, and Block Captains can pick up their ordered flowers.

This is also a chance to drop-off plants that are crowding your garden, or pick-up free plants that your neighbors had to thin out. Wood chips will be available for public planting areas and grass seed packets will be available for small bare spots in lawns.

After we have made our favorite place to live a little greener, join us for free hot dogs and sodas from 12pm-1pm… where you can sign-up to help keep the flowers at Four Corners watered throughout the summer.
