I was happy to see your editorial underscoring the need for a grocery store/farmer’s market in the neighborhood. For years, since Pete Fossil stopped driving his truck of vegetables around the blocks, I have longed for such a facility.
Then I discovered the proposal by our neighbor, Jon Parker, for the Delmar Food & Farmers Market to be built in the vacant Dobbs Tire property on Delmar, currently owned by Washington University. Such a brilliant idea, I thought, and as I passed the proposal to others, they seemed to agree, indeed were enthusiastic.
Now that dream seems less likely to develop. I, for one, am so sad and want to thank Jon and his associates for pursuing it during the past 18 months.
It could have brought a unique and creative answer to a real neighborhood need. – Pat Kohn
