The Skinker-DeBaliviere Neighborhood has many wonderful beautiful historic buildings, these homes, condominiums, and apartments can be much more difficult to heat than modern buildings.
There are also considerations with preserving historic architectural elements.
Please consider these tips as you try to conserve energy in your home this winter. • Make sure to properly service your boiler system if your residence still uses radiant heat, also make sure you let the extra air out of the radiators. Malfunctioning boilers can cause higher utility bills. • Make sure the dampers on your fireplaces are working properly and that they have a tight seal. Having a damper that is working correctly can prevent heat from escaping.
Also make sure that your chimney has been cleaned and is ready for use. • Install storm windows over single pane windows, or make sure existing storms are fully closed and that they have been properly caulked. • Install weather stripping around all of your exterior doors, this will prevent cold air from entering the home.
We hope that you have found these tips helpful and that they reduce your utility costs. Have a wonderful cozy winter!
