New City School is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

When the School was founded in 1969, the Central West End was struggling – businesses were leaving, schools were closing and property values were declining.

An intrepid group of neighbors dreamed of a unique school that would educate children in new and exciting ways, reflect the diversity of the neighborhood and stabilize this beautiful historic neighborhood.

From their many conversations, hours of volunteer time, contributions of money and expertise, New City School was founded and is fulfilling their vision. One of the ways New City continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Central West End is to host Story Time for neighbors of the School.

The New City School library hosts neighborhood children and their parents for stories designed for children from infant/ toddler through second grade. Story time is free and snacks will be provided. Story time at New City has been generously sponsored by Central West End neighbors Julie and William Shearburn.

There is adult supervision, but parents are required to stay with their children, and although there will be time to explore the library and read, books cannot be taken home.
