Congratulations to Jan Scott, longtime resident of Parkview, who has recently received the “Owen Miller Award.” The Owen Miller awards are named for the founding president of the Musicians’ Union in St. Louis.
These awards recognize the years of loyalty, dedication, fellowship, and fairness towards Local 2-197 and its members, as well as for action and deeds by which the stature of all musicians everywhere is embraced. Jan began her musical career as 2nd flutist in the St. Louis Symphony when still at student at Washington University, at the age of 21.
She went on to have a 23 year career on the faculty of SIUE, and is now Professor Emerita.
She also teaches a Financial Stress Reduction Workshop and still finds time to play Principal flute in the Gateway Festival Orchestra which plays in the WU Quadrangle in July.
She serves on the board of the Musician’s Association of St. Louis, Local 2-197.
