On April 18 and 19, over 50 student groups and hundreds of students from Washington University in St. Louis will come together to put on the oldest and largest student-run carnival in the United States.

This year’s theme is Timeless Traditions, Endless Adventures.

With exhilarating amusement rides, creative student performances, delicious food, and great tradition, the Thurtene Carnival is a must see for any age.

The Carnival is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Danforth Campus of Washington University.

The location will be in the parking lot and driveways in front of Brookings Hall, near the intersection of Skinker Blvd. and Forest Park Parkway. Over 80,000 people generally attend Thurtene, and the net proceeds from the event are donated to a St. Louis area charity. Washington University’s fraternities and sororities pair together to design and build facades. Other student groups construct and operate themed food booths and carnival games to help raise money as well.

The fried food booth is a long-standing tradition, as is the elaborately decorated BBQ hut. Food, drink, and tickets for rides and student plays may be purchased at the carnival with cash only. Entrance to the carnival site is free of charge. For more information, visit www.thurtene.org.
