Editor’s Notebook — Waiting For Spring

By Lana Stein

Historical April–May 2009 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

It was 60 degrees today and I reveled in the warmer air and sunshine. Max (the dog) and I are extending our walks and noting the buds on trees and bushes, harbingers of a more pleasant season.

I grew up in Michigan and spent 32 winters there. Of course I was younger but the cold didn’t penetrate like it does now.

I and most of my friends seemed to be waiting out what was actually a fairly mild winter and counted the days till Daylight Savings Time kicked in. Our neighborhood always looks so lovely in spring and summer and there are a plethora of events to keep us occupied and in touch with neighbors.

We begin at the end of April with the Operation Brightside Blitz.

Then it’s the Garden Tour, a perennial favorite, and on to my personal best event – the Dog Show!

Then there’s National Night Out, Rags to Riches, and concerts at Four Corners. It’s worth waiting for and I hope that neighbors who have not participated in these events will do so and perhaps volunteer to help out.

If “the year’s at the spring” then “all is right with the world.” Besides, each day that passes brings us closer to the reopening of Highway 40!
