Fall 2006

On Saturday, August 5th, Gretchen and Christian Boxdorfer hosted a lemonade stand at the corner of Rosedale and Waterman.

This was no ordinary stand, but to benefit pediatric brain tumor research. Gretchen and Christian (along with little sister Maddy and parents, Rachel and Matt) had learned about a series of lemonade stands that would take place in honor of Kirkwood resident Jamie Hahn’s second birthday. Jamie was diagnosed at the age of 11 months and although she is doing well, she is only weeks into 15 months of weekly chemo treatments.

To celebrate her birthday, her family asked that children and families host lemonade stands with proceeds going to the Washington University Department of Neurosurgery. More than two dozen lemonade stands were held in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

With publicity from flyers handed out prior to the event, and the goodness of hot and thirsty traffic, Gretchen and Christian were able to raise $238 for the cause.

They would like to thank the many neighbors who gave so generously and who enjoyed lemonade and a visit with neighbors for such a worthy cause!

The final results are not in yet, but the tally for all of the stands is already over $10,000! Thank you again to all our generous neighbors.
