Skinker DeBaliviere Community Housing Corporation is inviting community input on housing and property needs in the area that can be addressed by the Housing Corp. SDCHC is a nonprofit developer working in the Skinker DeBaliviere community since 1988.
The Housing Corporation encourages owner occupancy and commercial development that will improve and benefit the community and works to improve the housing stock in the Skinker DeBaliviere neighborhood and surrounding area. Since its inception, SDCHC has been involved in many successful projects that include buying problem properties, managing residential property, seeking developers, rehabbing property, and holding vacant property for future development.
The SDCHC Mission Statement: To be the buyer/developer of necessity; empowering strong development and homeownership, with the goal of improving the character, heritage and quality of the Skinker DeBaliviere neighborhood and community.
We have been using the 1991 Skinker DeBaliviere Interim Housing Strategy as a guideline for our activities these past years, but many of the objectives in this study have been achieved, the neighborhood has changed a lot in the past 14 years, and a new neighborhood plan has not been written.
As the SDCHC moves into its next strategic planning session we are asking for community members to share their thoughts and ideas on how the Housing Corp might address property concerns in the area. Individuals may send written comments or speak in person at a Board meeting.
We are setting aside time at our September 21 and October 5 Board meetings for community comment. Comments, requests and Ideas should be in keeping with SDCHC’s Mission Statement and our general business practices.
If you choose to speak in person (time will be limited) at a Board meeting; it would be helpful if you would let Gary Boehnke know that you will be attending, call Gary at 862- 5122 and schedule a time.
