Jill McGuire, longtime resident at 61xx Westminster, and founding director of the Regional Arts Commission has received a very prestigious award from her peers in the arts community.
During the 2005 Americans for the Arts conference held June 11 – 13 in Austin, McGuire became the recipient of the Selina Roberts Ottum award.
The name of the recipient had not been revealed in advance and, needless to say, McGuire was totally surprised.
The Ottum award recognized the achievements of an individual who has made a meaningful contribution to his or her community through local arts leadership. Robert L. Lynch, the president and CEO of Americans for the Arts noted that, “With boundless energy and dedication, Jill McGuire has established herself as a real powerhouse in community arts leadership. Despite being fully involved in arts programs throughout her region, Jill’s enthusiasm is uncontainable; she has brought her talent and expertise to local arts leadership throughout the country, to the benefit of communities everywhere.” McGuire frequently has provided expertise to arts organizations across the country and she continues to enhance our art scene.
The Regional Arts Commission now is located on Skinker DeBaliviere’s northern boundary and offers residents considerable opportunity to take advantage of gallery showing, provides meeting space, and meets the needs of the region. Jill McGuire had worked with and been a friend of Selina Roberts Ottum.
It was particularly poignant for her to receive the award created for her friend’s memory. Congratulations to our special neighbor and friend.
