At least a third of Skinker DeBaliviere is now in the 26th ward. East of Des Peres and from the north side of Waterman north, neighborhood residents are now represented at the Board of Aldermen by Frank Williamson. Williamson was sworn in in April of this year, taking the seat held for 12 years by Irving Clay. Williamson is no stranger to St. Louis government or politics.
He grew up in that milieu.
His father was a longtime 26th ward committeeman who worked closely with Congressman Bill Clay and demonstrated with him at the Jefferson Bank. Williamson served as Democratic Committeeman himself for 12 years before becoming alderman.
After finishing school, Williamson spent four years in the army.
He then held a number of government jobs working first in the License Collector’s office for a year and a half.
He then served 5 years in the Sheriff’s office.
He then went to work for the Treasurer.
He first served as paymaster for four years and then became engaged in the management of several city parking structures as they came on line.
He began with the Kiel Garage, then the Marquette, and then the Argyle on Euclid and Lindell. Williamson resides on 54xx Clemons and has a son who attends Tennessee State. Williamson feels strongly that the housing production in the 26th ward begun by Ald. Clay must continue.
He wants to put more houses back on the tax rolls and make his ward a stable community. Williamson also wishes to have input in the development occurring on Delmar.
He would like to see some minority businesses locate there.
Another area of interest to Ald. Williamson is programs for youth.
He would like to see more after-school programs.
He also wants to foster adult learning programs.
An additional concern is the public schools. Two elementary schools in the 26th ward were closed and students from one, Cook, now attend Hamilton in our neighborhood. Ald. Williamson spoke highly of Skinker DeBaliviere and is very familiar with projects taking place here now.
He can be reached at 622-3287.
