Partying In The Cool, Crisp Air

September 2002

Historical September–October 2002 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

Many would agree that June 15 was the last Saturday when people could come together in the out-of-doors to have a good time. Fortunately for the Times, June 15 was an extremely pleasant evening not beset by excessive heat, humidity, or virulent mosquitos. And, many people came to the Vatcha-Green backyards on Westminster to help support our all volunteer neighborhood newspaper and meet old and new friends.

There were neighbors who have lived here for several decades or more and quite a number who have been here a year or less.

Some had children with them.

Some were children of old-timers who now make their home here, too. Thanks to those on the Times Board and other newspaper supporters who supplied delectables to eat and to our rotating crew of friendly bartenders who sold beer and soda to the throng. Thanks, too, to Lois Schoemehl, our Business Manager, who has our TIMES finances well in hand and helped immensely in keeping expenses low. Besides seeing old friends and meeting newcomers, the party raised money.

It costs about $600 to produce an issue and this party enabled us to produce at least 2 and 1/3 more of our chock-filled tales of Skinker DeBaliviere.

If you were unable to attend and wish to contribute, please send a check to the Times c/o 6168 Westminster.

In addition, we are thinking of a new and different way to seek support that many of you may like. Details in the next issue!
