Big Jake’s Arrives

September 2002

Historical September–October 2002 article. Dates, prices, services and contacts describe the source period; current availability has not been established.

On Saturday, June 29, Delmar’s newest barbecue restaurant held an open house to introduce neighbors and greater St. Louis to its wares.

I went by with a friend, captivated by the crowd and the welcoming decorations. Everyone seemed to be there: from politicians to neighbors to old friends of the owners and anybody in between. Although not a restaurant reviewer by training, I nonetheless give Big Jakes two thumbs up.

The chicken, beef, and pork were all tender and juicy.

The special sauce had a tomato vinegar flavor and tasted just right.

There was also cole slaw and potato salad and soft drinks.

A return visit is very likely on my part.

There is also a take-out window for those picking up a little something for dinner or a midnight snack. We’d been waiting for Big Jake’s for over a year. I’m glad it’s here.
